NFL Rivals Launches ‘Monster Smash 2’ Program Featuring Legendary NFL Running Back, Adrian Peterson

[PRESS RELEASE – Los Angeles, California, October 21st, 2024]

NFL Rivals, the officially licensed video game of the National Football League and the National Football League Players Association,  has launched its Monster Smash 2’, Halloween program, which allows players to complete challenges and compete to “rewrite history” with its first NFL Legend, former NFL MVP, Adrian Peterson, in a series of monstrous performances playing as the running back.

Simply, the program will focus on current NFL players who have had great October performances in the past, with Adrian being the exception. There will be players in packs, currency events during the week, ‘Main Events’ on the weekends, a Power Pass, and the program store available with the usual legendary, epic, and rare players.

However, Adrian’s editions will be featured throughout the game – as a ‘free’ giveaway, a Battle Pass reward, and the program’s top two rewards in the program story – Legendary and Mythical Player Editions. The two rewards will be available to purchase exclusively using ‘candy’, but players can only purchase one of them, not both.

The Halloween program is four weeks in duration and contains 40 milestones.  Rewards along the battle pass include coins, gems, training resources, player cards, PFPs, as well as one exclusive Epic reward player at the end of the paid path.  That exclusive player in this promo will be Adrian Peterson.

The program launched on Thursday, October 17, at 8 AM PT and is expected to run until Thursday, November 14, at 8 AM PT, with winners earning exclusive rewards as they complete challenges.

The Monster Smash 2 Program Launches

The Monster Smash 2 program gives players a chance to compete in events and challenges and earn ‘candy’ – the powering currency within the game. The ‘candy’ can be used to unlock special Halloween players (those who have had monstrous performances in October in the past) and some special Adrian Peterson cards.

Similar to previous programs, the NFL players will have the core group of players in packs and the ‘chase’ players in events; but with a few differences. The packs will include 8 Legendary, 8 Epic, and up to 10 Rare players, with an additional seven ‘chase’ players who will be featured in weekend events and the promo store.

To clarify, the seven ‘chase’ players are not available in packs. Four players will be released as the weekend event rewards and three in the promo store that users can spend their ‘Candy’ currency on – rare, epic, legendary. This allows players to unlock some of the best players in the game, and advance their challenge series.

Adrian Peterson will also have multiple editions rewarded at different areas of the program. Players will get a chance to relive some of Peterson’s most legendary moments through the themed ‘Challenges.’

First, every player layer that logs in will be able to claim a “Base Card”, which is a free reward on the first node in ‘Challenges’. Second, players can collect the “Rare NAT” edition, a non-tradable rare edition which will be rewarded at the end of the program’s quick play ‘Challenges’. Players can also claim the “Epic LE” edition as a reward at the end of the Battle Pass.

Finally, players can also purchase two top-tier cards (Adrian Peterson editions) – Legendary and Mythical for candy currency in the promo store.

Tasks and Challenges in Monster Smash 2

As stated, players will have 40 milestones to complete within 4 weeks, helping them earn promo XP that provides them with the progress in the Rewards battle pass. Some change daily while others have some more extended durations.  While QB passing is the main trade within the game, Monster Smash 2 will heavily focus on running tasks hence the need for players to have Adrian Peterson editions at RB position.

Events will remain focused on currency-collecting events during the week and then player-specific ‘Main Events’ over the weekends. The currency-collecting events will occur twice a week, having different requirements each time, and primarily reward out varying volumes of the program currency to help spend on rewards in the Promo Store. The main events will be the most competitive areas of the game and will contain some of the best players in the Halloween program, not counting Adrian Peterson. The final Mythical event gives an added bonus based on which version of Adrian Peterson you have in your lineup.

The program will also include 10 running challenges that will relive some of Adrian Peterson’s biggest moments of his career or re-write history by overcoming some of his close calls. Some of the challenges include the 2008 Week 10 game-winning TD vs the Green Bay Packers, the 2009 NFC Championship vs the New Orleans Saints, the 2013 Week 13 comeback vs the Chicago Bears, the 2012 NFC Wild Card loss vs the GB Packers and a final challenge, the 2007 single-game rushing record that saw him rush for 296 yards vs the LA Chargers.

Following the completion of the “Adrian Peterson Challenge”, users will earn his RARE card as the final reward, which can help them in the ‘Beast Events’ to try and earn his higher-powered editions. Any additional rewards between challenges should include RB training points to help users upgrade their new AP editions.

Finally, the Halloween program will also introduce a brand-new spooky stadium, along with eerie card effects and even camera shakes when using any Adrian Peterson version.
