Eric Trump, the son of U.S. president Donald Trump, has joined Metaplanet Inc., a Japanese publicly traded company that’s listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, as an advisor.
Metaplanet announced on March 21, 2025 that Eric Trump has joined its newly formed Strategic Board of Advisors “effective immediately.”
Metaplanet adds Eric Trump to board
According to the company, a prolific buyer of Bitcoin (BTC), the appointment of Trump is part of its ambition to drive BTC adoption. The strategic board of advisors are set to play a huge role in Metaplanet’s Bitcoin treasury strategy.
Eric Trump is the executive vice president of The Trump Organization, and one of the Trump family’s most vocal supporters of Bitcoin and crypto. He brings a wealth of experience and business acumen to the Metaplanet board, the company said.
“We are honored to welcome Eric Trump as the first member of our Strategic Board of Advisors and look forward to welcoming him to our annual meeting,” Simon Gerovich, representative director of Metaplanet, said in a statement.
Gerovich added:
“His business acumen, love of the Bitcoin community and global hospitality perspective will be invaluable in accelerating Metaplanet’s vision of becoming one of the world’s leading Bitcoin Treasury Companies.”
Eyeing Bitcoin as a treasury asset
The new strategic board of advisors will, among other things, offer guidance on Metaplanet’s corporate strategy, capital allocation and partnerships. As such, Eric’s input will help strengthen Metaplanet’s position as one of the world’s top Bitcoin companies.
Following its latest BTC purchase on March 18, 2025, Metaplanet now holds more than 3,200 Bitcoin in its treasury. The BTC buy on Mar. 18 saw the company scoop 150 bitcoin coins worth about 1.8 billion yen, or about $12.5 million.
Eric Trump, a key figure in the decentralized finance project World Liberty Financial, has in the past touted Bbitcoin and Ethereum as top investment opportunities,
BTC trades around $83k today, having struggled since dipping from its all-time of $109k. Meanwhile Ethereum hovers below $2k but analysts project it could rally to $4k in 2025.
