DOGS has also entered into a partnership with Best Friends Animal Society, a nonprofit dedicated to animal welfare in the US.

DOGS, a memecoin built on The Open Network (TON), plans to donate over 6 billion tokens worth approximately $4.5 million to nonprofit organizations worldwide following the launch of a charity portal in late November.
The new platform allows registered nonprofit organizations across the globe to apply for funding, “reflecting DOGS’ commitment to redirect a significant portion of unclaimed airdrop tokens toward charitable initiatives,” it told Cointelegraph.
“Over the course of the year, more than 6 billion DOGS tokens, equivalent to $4.5 million at the current rate, will be distributed to selected organizations, following a thorough approval process,” it added.
Part of the new initiative is a $150,000 partnership with Best Friends Animal Society — a nonprofit supporting homeless animals in the United States.
“Our partnership with Best Friends Animal Society is a call to action for the crypto community to help achieve a future where every shelter reaches the 90% no-kill benchmark by 2025,” said DOGS founder ‘Andrew.’
Through this collaboration, DOGS will fund one month of care for adopted dogs.
The DOGS memecoin project was inspired by Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov’s iconic dog drawing as a global symbol of Digital Resistance and a TON rebrand following his arrest in France in August.
The dog symbol harks back to 2011 when Durov was ordered to eradicate the posts of liberal thinkers and dissidents.
The DOGS token launched an airdrop reaching 17 million users in September. Users of the Dogs Mini App on Telegram surpassed 53 million, and around 42 million were eligible for the token airdrop aimed at increasing crypto awareness on the messaging platform and promoting animal welfare.
DOGS’ mascot, ‘Spotty,’ will serve as an ambassador for Best Friends Animal Society, appearing in events and marketing materials.
Originally conceived by Durov as part of a charity auction, Spotty has since become an icon for The Open Network (TON).

DOGS spiked to an all-time high of $0.0016 on Aug. 28, shortly after launch, when it knocked TON offline, but it has since fallen 54.6% and is down a further 4% on the day as memecoins retreated.
