D3 launches .APE domain names for ApeCoin users

D3 Global, a web3 domain name company, has launched top-level domain names for the ApeCoin community.

An announcement the firm published on Oct. 22 noted that the ApeCoin (APE) ecosystem can now use the .APE top-level domain names on the newly launched layer-2 solution ApeChain.

The Ape Names initiative is the first step in the quest to bring an interoperable name service to the crypto project’s users.

Community approved .APE domain names proposal

D3’s launch of the .APE domain names stems from a proposal on top-level domain names that the ApeCoin community approved earlier this year. The vote aligns with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers’ plans to roll out new generic TLDs over the next two years.

According to D3’s announcement, the launch of .APE top-level domains allows users to purchase and utilize tokenized Ape Names as a web3 identifier. This feature is available ahead of the next ICANN application round.

Specifically, ApeCoin holders can use the tokenized names for various purposes, including as email addresses, wallet addresses, decentralized infrastructure identifiers, and web3 usernames.

“There is an imminent need for a comprehensive, all-in-one name solution that not only facilitates the growth of the APE brand and community, but also ensures futureproof utility for users. The APE Foundation is excited to partner closely with D3 to build the future of the internet together for Apes by Apes,”

Gerard Hernandez, APE Foundation special council

D3 will offer .APE domain names to token holders, with availability to the general public to follow in due course.

Currently, D3 is a domain partner for several blockchain user communities, including Shiba Inu, Magic Eden, NEAR Protocol, Own The Doge, and Core DAO.

Apart from D3’s traction in the space, other companies helping to bring domain names to crypto users include GoDaddy, Ethereum Name Service and Unstoppable Domains. In February, GoDaddy and ENS partnered to bring .eth domain names to the community.
