You should ‘go and build’ your own AI agent: Jesse Pollak, X Hall of Flame

While crypto traders scramble to find the perfect AI agent crypto token to strike it rich, Base creator Jesse Pollak suggests a more straightforward approach: “Go and build something.”

“There are all of these tool kits that let you start experimenting with building your own AI agent out of the box,” Pollak tells Hall of Flame.

He says Virtuals on Base is “really cool,” but there’s another platform called Me.fun where you don’t have to launch a token with your AI agent. It lets you customize an agent, tweak its guidance, and plug in different data sources.

Pollak explains that if you make an AI agent that starts generating content on Zora and others begin minting the non-fungible token (NFTs), then “boom, now you’re making money.”

“One of the cool things about being onchain is you can get paid for your creativity.”

Pollak believes that pretty much anything you do onchain has value. If you create something that catches attention and people find it cool, he says there is always a way for value to flow back to you.

“The technology is finally ready on the AI side and the onchain side, and we are finally seeing the intersection between those two things,”  explains the computer science dropout turned crypto industry cult hero with over 200,000 X followers.

To the Fudders claiming “AI on crypto is dead,” Pollak fires back, “We’re just getting started.”

The top AI and data tokens have a market cap of about $47.46 billion — which is around a third of the total DeFi market cap of $153.53 billion, according to CoinMarketCap.

“There is no better way to be part of it than to learn by building,” says the tech whiz with a strong passion for soccer, who has always had an entrepreneurial spirit.

Even with Pollak’s hectic schedule running Base and traveling the world, he still makes time for a restaurant in his hometown, Oakland, called “daytrip” that he co-owns with his two best mates.

In 2022, food magazine Bon Appétit recognized it as one of the top ten new restaurants in the US.

How did Jesse Pollak build his X following?

Pollak’s been on X since January 2009 and has racked up 200,900 followers — but he says nearly 90% of them showed up after Base launched in February 2023.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if when we launched Base, it was at 20,000 or something like that,” Pollak says.

“The launch of Base and my emergence as the leader of Base is the thing that has increased my growth and followers,” he explains.

He says the growth in followers since has “been really dramatic.”

“It gave me a purpose on Twitter…which is to inspire and rally builders around the world.”

He sees his mission as converting people into Base.

“When I think about my growth of followers, really that is growth in believers,” he says.

What type of content does Jesse Pollak like?

Pollak’s content is a mix of informative, educational and inspirational — mostly about Base.

Pollak remembers waking up one morning with “some thoughts” and hopping on his X account to post, “Base changed my life; good things come to those who stay Based.”

He believes his audience connects with that sort of off-the-cuff, reactive content.

“I’m speaking to thousands and thousands of people around the world, and we are all having this shared experience of this new economy being built,” Pollak says.

Pollak wants to make it clear that all his X posts are his own, not the work of some random freelancer from Fiverr.

Predictions for Jesse Pollak?

When asked which AI agent he’s most bullish on, he laughed and said, “I can’t pick a single one.”

There are tons he’s interested in, though. He’s “super excited” about AIXBT, the key opinion leader (KOL) account that’s now the “largest influencer on Crypto Twitter,” with over 440,000 followers just three months after launching in November 2024.

He’s also excited about Virtuals Protocol, which he calls a “huge platform for launching agents.”

Another project he’s looking forward to is Parallel’s upcoming omnichain tool, Wayfinder.
