The former Celsius CEO was scheduled to be sentenced in April after pleading guilty to two felony charges.

Roughly two months after pleading guilty, former Celsius CEO Alex Mashinsky has requested a delay in his sentencing hearing, which is scheduled for April 8.
In a Feb. 5 filing in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, Mashinsky asked the court to push his sentencing hearing from April 8 until May 8. According to the former Celsius CEO’s lawyers, Mashinsky was “simultaneously being pulled in a number of directions” amid his guilty plea in criminal court and litigation in bankruptcy court.
“The defense wants to ensure that it has sufficient time to prepare a sentencing submission that accurately presents Mr. Mashinsky’s views on his offense conduct, along with the many other factors to be considered by the Court in weighing an appropriate sentence,” said the filing.

In 2023, US authorities charged Mashinsky with seven felony counts related to fraud and manipulating the price of Celsius’ CEL (CEL) token. The former CEO was expected to go to trial before he pleaded guilty to two charges in December 2024.
The Feb. 5 filing stated US prosecutors had provided victim impact statements to Mashinsky’s lawyers ahead of sentencing and objected to the delay. The former Celsius CEO also requested a delay in the disclosure of a presentence investigation report and any objections and responses.

Wrapping up criminal cases in 2025?
Celsius’ former chief revenue officer, Roni Cohen-Pavon — named in the same indictment as the former CEO — pleaded guilty to four felony charges in September 2023. At the time of publication, his sentencing hearing was not scheduled, but it was expected to be held after Mashinsky’s.
It’s unclear whether a judge will consider prison time for Cohen-Pavon or Mashinsky based on sentencing guidelines. Prominent figures from the crypto industry have gone to prison, including former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried and former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao — though Zhao only served four months, while Bankman-Fried remains incarcerated.
