42 coins have outperformed BTC year-to-date: Lookonchain

Popcat, Mantra, and Mog Coin are among 42 cryptocurrencies to outperform Bitcoin in 2024, according to a Lookonchain analysis.

Bitcoin (BTC) is the world’s largest and top digital asset, currently attracting the most institutional interest. However, according to an analysis by Lookonchain, the flagship cryptocurrency lags 42 altcoins in terms of year-to-date returns.

Popcat (POPCAT), Mantra (OM) and Mog Coin (MOG) are among the cryptocurrencies to post significant gains compared to Bitcoin as of September 2024.

For instance, POPCAT was up 7550% year-to-date, having skyrocketed since Binance announced trading support in August.

Mantra, which expects its mainnet in October, has seen its OM token surge 1550% YTD. The altcoin is among the Binance-listed coins to record a major price uptick.

However, other coins not available on the exchange have also performed well, including MOG 2200% and MAGA 1129%. In comparison, BTC stood at over 43% at the time of writing.

Meme coins and exchange tokens

Some of the tokens to outpace Bitcoin, which itself rose remarkably in 2024 amid spot exchange-traded fund and halving sentiment to hit an all-time high above $73k, include meme coins, exchange tokens and a host several small-caps.

Of the top 10 big gainers compared to BTC year-to-date, eight are meme coins and Binance currently lists four of them.

Dogwifhat (WIF) is one of the meme coins to list on Binance in 2024 and its performance YTD stood at 976% – with more than 230% upside since the leading exchange added trading support in March.

Other notable gainers include ARKM, PENDLE, FLOKI and PEPE, which Binance listed in 2023 and saw substantial upside momentum in 2024. According to Lookonchain, the exchange listings appear to have boosted these tokens.
